Andrews Police respond to disturbance involving gunfire

The following press release has been issued by the Town of Andrews Police Department.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On January 8, 2014 at about 4:15 pm Town of Andrews Assistant Police Chief Woodard was called to a disturbance at West Winds Apartments.   Upon arriving, Woodard determined that 23-year-old Andrew James Collins of Andrews had been into an argument with his ex-girlfriend, Rebecca Sherbert.

Collins allegedly fired a 9 mm pistol in the residence in order to scare Sherbert while in the presence of their 15-month-old daughter.

No one was injured during the incident.

Assistant Chief Woodard arrested Collins for:
- Discharge of firearm within enclosure to incite fear, and
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the Presence of a Minor

Collins was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center and placed under a $10,000 bond.
