The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Keith Lovin announced that 54 year old Teresa Ann Hardin was arrested for violations of the controlled substance laws including Possession of Controlled Substances in Jail.
On June 27th, 2014 while deputies of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office were assisting the North Carolina Highway Patrol into a Driving While Impaired incident, Hardin was arrested by Officers of the North Carolina Highway Patrol and was transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center for processing.
During the processing of Hardin, she removed and partially ingested controlled substances which were later identified as a Schedule II controlled substance which she did not have a current prescription for.
Hardin was released on a $3,000.00 unsecure bond and is expected to appear in Cherokee County District Court on July 08th, 2014.
Sheriff Lovin stated “it is common practice with my Office to warn individuals prior to being brought into the Detention Center they endanger themselves of the consequences of additional charges if they bring controlled substances into the Detention Center, I don’t believe we can be anymore fair than that.”
