Arrest made in counterfeit money case

The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Murphy, NC— Jennifer Lynn McCullough, a 33 year old Murphy North Carolina woman was arrested by Deputies and Investigators on April 24, 2014 for forgery.

In an ongoing investigation into fraudulent one and five dollar bills of U.S. currency being uttered at local businesses in Cherokee County, investigators developed information that lead to the arrest of McCullough and the seizure of items that were consistent with the manufacture of fraudulent currency.

McCullough was originally booked in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $10,000.00 bond. During her initial appearance in District Court on April 25th, 2014 her bond was reduced to $5,000.00 which was posted by a bonding company on April 26th, 2014.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the counterfeiting case and is currently working with the United States Secret Service.
