HAYESVILLE, NC, Aug. 7, 2014 – The U.S. Forest Service reopened the swimming beach and adjacent bathroom at Jackrabbit Recreation Area this afternoon. The area had been closed because of a broken sewage pump, which has been fixed.

HAYESVILLE, NC, Aug. 7, 2014 – The U.S. Forest Service has closed the swimming beach at Jackrabbit Recreation Area because of a failed sewage pump.

No sewage has leaked in or around Chatuge Lake. The agency closed the beach and adjacent bathrooms as a precautionary measure to ensure public health. The Forest Service is working to fix the broken pump.

The campgrounds, trails and boat launch at Jackrabbit Recreation Area remain open. The Forest Service will issue an alert to announce the reopening of the swimming beach and bathrooms.
