The following news release has been issued by Towns County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
On April 1, 2014, an agent from Appalachian Drug Task Force (ADTF), assisted by Towns County Sheriff’s Deputies and Hiawassee Police Department executed a Fourth Waiver search on a subject at Ramada Inn in Hiawassee.
Upon further investigation, agents found quantities of marijuana and drug related objects. The subject allegedly resisted arrest. Joshua Allen Wasko (21), of a Blairsville address, was charged with Distribution, Possession, and Obstruction. Subject was on probation and Probation Officer was notified. Wasko Bonded out on April 17.
Subsequently, a Probation Violation Warrant was issued, and he was spotted by Towns County Sheriff’s Office deputies at Sunoco gas station on April 26. During the interview, the subject fled the scene on foot, and was apprehended quickly at a nearby cemetery.
Wasko was charged with Probation Violation (original warrant), and one count of obstruction. He is currently in custody in Towns County Detention Center.
