Murphy, NC— On April 20th, 2013, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dustin Lee Adams, a 22 year old Murphy, NC man and Brandon Patrick Trantham, a 22 year old Ducktown, TN man for Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer, Communicating Threats, Simple Assault, Attempted Larceny, and Larceny of Motor Vehicle.

The arrest came as a result of a complaint by a citizen in the western part of Cherokee County indicating that two men were attempting to steal a four wheeler and some other items. While investigating the complaint, deputies found that Adams and Trantham had loaded a four wheeler and were attempting to leave with it, and were approached by the owner.  When confronted  by the owner, they identified themselves as North Carolina Wildlife Officers and attempted to leave. Through the help of neighbors of the complainant, both Adams and Trantham were detained until deputies arrived.

Adams, who was charged with Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer in October 2007 along with three other individuals utilizing a blue light to stop drivers, is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $25,000.00 secure bond. Trantham was released after posting a $25,000.00 bond. Both Adams and Trantham have a April 23rd, 2013 District Court appearance date.
