The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Murphy, NC— During the early evening hours of April 2, 2013 the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Hanging Dog Road residence to investigate a report of disturbance and physical altercation at the residence. While responding to the scene information became known that one of the individuals at the residence may have been shot.
Upon arriving at the residence Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies found Tommy Dockery, a 40 year old Murphy North Carolina man lying on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen. Dockery was provided emergency treatment by Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services and was later airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga Tennessee. His condition was listed as critical as of April 3, 2013.
The incident is still under investigation but appears to have stemmed from a high speed vehicle chase that Dockery may have been involved in.
