On Thursday morning, April 11, 2013, the Tribal Council of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians voted to move forward with building a casino in Murphy, North Carolina to be located on the Palmer tract behind Snap-On Tools based on recommendations by the Tribal Casino Gaming Enterprise (TCGE).
The casino is expected to bring around 800 jobs to Cherokee County.
