Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Keith Lovin stated that Ryan Lester Greene, a 36 year old Marble, North Carolina man plead guilty on June 11, 2014 to sexual battery.
In January 2012, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Georgia law enforcement authorities that Greene was accused of corresponding via internet communications and then meeting and transporting a juvenile female back to Cherokee County, North Carolina. Georgia law enforcement further provided details that Greene engaged in sex acts with the juvenile while in Cherokee County, North Carolina.
Judge Jeffrey Hunt sentenced Greene to 45 days in jail which was suspended. Greene was placed on supervised probation for a period of 18 months and is required to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
While Greene was serving a special sentence a wants and warrant check revealed that Greene was wanted out of Georgia for Interstate Interference With Custody. Greene is currently being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $200,000.00 secure bond.
Sheriff Keith Lovin remarked, “this case demonstrates how dangerous the internet is. My office continues to battle internet predators to ensure our youth and community remain safe.”
