Here’s what’s happening in the April 10 edition of the Cherokee Scout, your local newspaper since 1889:

• Joey Christopher Womble received eight months in jail for his role in the drunk-driving death of 3-year-old Brady Singleton in Hiwassee Dam.
• The Cherokee County Health Department in Murphy is being renovated, in part to get rid of unhealthy mold.
• Dwight Waters of Nantahala celebrated his 99th birthday at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home in Peachtree.
• In Sports, Murphy Club Shoppe owner Randy Vaughn has been named to Golf Digest magazine’s top 100 club-fitters list.
• In Community, look for a photo page full of students looking like, “Lions, tigers and bears – Oh my!”
