Child pulled from pond in Hiawassee


Hiawassee, GA – On Sunday June 22nd, Towns County deputies responded to Chatuge Regional Hospital to a report of a 2 year old child that was found in a pond unresponsive.  The pond was located near a residence on Cynth Creek Road in Hiawassee.

The child was reported to have been outside playing with two older brothers. The mother discovered her 2 year old son missing and began searching for him. The mother found the child in a nearby pond. The mother began CPR and EMS was requested to respond.

The child was transported to Chatuge Regional Hospital by Towns County EMS. The child was pronounced decease a short time after arriving at the hospital. The names are being withheld pending notification of relatives. It appears to be an accidental drowning. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Clinton added, “it goes without saying that this is a terrible tragedy.  Our hearts break for this child and family.  Please keep them lifted up in your thoughts and prayers.”
