The following news release has been issued by Clay County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Investigators from the Clay Co. Sheriff’s Office have charged Nicholas Foster Conforti with Manufacture of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Maintaining a vehicle/Dwelling Place for a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Simple Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Sheriff Vic Davis said that his office received a tip from a confidential source that Conforti was using a rental house where he was living to grow the suspected Marijuana. Sheriff Davis’ narcotics investigator, Bobby Deese was assigned to investigate the tip.
After beginning the investigation, Deese was able to develop enough probable cause to get a search warrant.
Sheriff Davis said that Deese, along with deputies and other investigators with the office, went to the residence of Nicholas Conforti, which is located on NC Hwy 69.
Upon arriving at the residence, deputies could smell the odor of Marijuana emitting from the house. The windows were boarded up so no one could see inside. Davis said that there were several buckets on the back porch of the residence that were filled with dirt and had Marijuana leaves on the floor around the buckets.
Investigator Deese went to where Conforti works to speak with him while deputies secured the house. Conforti came back to his house and secured several dogs while the Sheriff’s Office searched the residence according to Davis.
Several small plants were found but no large plants were found during the search. Sheriff Davis said that there were lots of Marijuana leaves throughout the house apparently from plants that had already been harvested. There was all the items needed to grow Marijuana in the house, said the sheriff. There were grow lights, buckets, and chemicals used for growing plants. There were also 5 Kid swimming pools in the house with Marijuana leaves in them. Plastic bags often used for the packaging and resale of Marijuana and scales were found. Windows in the house were boarded up so you could not see the inside of the house from the outside. The sheriff said the walls inside the house were lined with reflective material to reflect light and heat onto growing plants. Suspected Marijuana seeds were found in the house. A dehydrator was found that is commonly used to dry the Marijuana buds.
According to the Sheriff, all items were seized by deputies. Some items will be sent to the crime lab to be analyzed.
Before charging and arresting Conforti, Investigators met with the District Attorney’s office to brief the district attorney. After meeting with the district attorney, charges were then secured against Conforti. Conforti was arrested, made bond and was released. He has a court date set for August the 14th in district court.
