Drug related charges
Jerry Michael Middleton, age 21, of Lance Road, Murphy, NC was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Paraphernalia after a traffic stop in the 1000 block of Hwy 141 in Cherokee County. Middleton, was a passenger in a car that had been stopped for an equipment violation. During the traffic stop, officers received permission to search a back pack that Middleton had in his possession and found assorted paraphernalia and methamphetamine resulting in the charges. The operator of the car was released with a warning to repair the equipment.
Middleton was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center where a $1,000 secure bond was set, which he later posted.
Investigating Officers were Investigators Robert White, Sean Mathews, and Patrol Deputy Nolan Queen.
Breaking and Entering/Obtaining by False Pretense Charges
Casey Lee Johnson, age 27, of Leatherwood Drive, Murphy, NC was arrested on February 2, 2014 and charged with Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, and Obtaining by False Pretense.
Johnson was arrested after an investigation began on January 25, 2014, in which a resident of Yellow Pine Drive reported a break in at their residence in which a video game controller, games and accessories valued at $500.00 were taken. Johnson was developed as a suspect and during the investigation, the stolen property was recovered at a local pawn shop where Johnson had sold the goods immediately after the break in. With assistance from the pawn shop operator, Johnson was identified and the property seized and returned to the owner.
Johnson surrendered herself after learning of the charges to the Cherokee Adult Detention Center where she was booked and released on a unsecured bond.
The investigating officer was Investigator Harold Mashburn.
Karen Rana Ray Campbell, age 45, of Beal Circle, Murphy, NC was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Schedule VI, Schedule II, and Schedule III narcotics, (marijuana and assorted prescription drugs.) The arrest came after Campbell was stopped for a traffic violation (running a stop sign) at the intersection of US 64 and Alternate US 64. A consent to search granted by Campbell, resulted in the contraband being found in Campbell’s purse.
Campbell was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center where she was booked and released on a $3,000.00 unsecured bond.
Investigating Officers were Investigators Tory Shivers Sr., Keith Watkins, and Patrol Deputy Zachary Shivers.
