(WBIR-TV) — Family, friends and service members gave a final honor to a fallen soldier with Oak Ridge ties on Friday.
24-year-old Staff Sergeant Christopher Ward was killed in a suicide car bombing Saturday in Afghanistan. He was helping deliver textbooks to a school when the attack happened.
Friday morning, his body arrived at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base. Dozens of service members were there to pay their respects.
His mother, Joyce Ward, says he son loved serving his country and fellow Americans. She says they will miss his beautiful smile and fearless attitude.
