Hayesville man charged with meth possession and intent to sell/deliver controlled substances

The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On March 18th, deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Paul Richard Lucas from Hayesville.

Acting on information, that Lucas was possibly armed with a weapon and in possession of methamphetamine, deputies located Lucas at the Dollar General Store in the Peachtree Community of Cherokee County.

Lucas was detained, questioned and in a subsequent search approximately 3 grams of methamphetamine was found on Lucas’ person.

Lucas was arrested for possession with the intent to sell and deliver schedule II controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia and was incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $5,000 secured bond. Lucas is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court later this month.

The case is being investigated by Deputy Eddie Mathis and Detective Tory Shivers.
