K-9 visits campus of Towns County Schools

TCSO K9On August 16, Towns County Sheriff’s Cpl. Brandon Barrett and K9 “Sarge” visited the campus of Towns County Schools, at the request of School Resource Officer Deputy Donnie Jarrard.

Cpl. Barrett and Sarge walked the parking lots and conducted “free air sniffs” among the vehicles. No contraband objects were detected by the K9.

After conducting a walk-through of the parking lots, Cpl. Barrett was invited into the school with a new member of Towns County’s K9 team, “Copper”. Copper is a bloodhound puppy, and was donated to Towns County Sheriff’s Office from Sporting Chance Kennels in Savannah, Ga. He will be trained and used for tracking duties both in trailing suspects and in searching for missing persons.

For now, Copper is just a pup who enjoyed the attention of the students at the school, and Cpl. Barrett is looking forward to working with him.

If any civic or community groups would like to have Towns County’s K9s drop in for a visit, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 706-896-4444. More information on new K9 Copper will follow in a future article.
