The following press release has been issued by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
On February 3, 2014, around 9:45 PM, Charles Irin Moose, age 36, of Snowbird Road, Robbinsville, NC and Ricky Lee Gunter, age 55, of Dynasty Drive, Whittier, NC, were arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Automobile.
Patrol Sergeant Ryan Cunningham arrested the two men after seeing them in the parking lot of the Tractor Supply Store after regular closed hours. When Cunningham approached the car they were driving, they departed the parking lot, but were stopped near the Hwy 64 and Hwy 129 intersection. A check of the license plate through the National Crime Information Computer revealed the car had been stolen in Jackson County, NC on January 31, 2014.
Gunter, who was driving the car, was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving with a Revoke Drivers License. Gunter’s bond was set at $5,000.00 (secure).
Moose was charged with Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Moose’s bond was set at $7,000.00 (secure).
Both men may additionally face charges in Jackson County in connection with the theft of the car, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala.
Investigating Officers were Sergeant Ryan Cunningham assisted by Investigators Tory Shivers and Keith Watkins.
