Mother arrested for child abuse

The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Murphy, NC— Carliegh Marie Gibby, a 23 year old female who reported a Murphy, North Carolina address was arrested on May 6th, 2014 and charged with Felony Child Abuse from indictments handed down from the Cherokee County Grand Jury.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division conducted an investigation into the reported injuries that a three year old boy received which resulted in medical care; a fractured arm, numerous bruises and a contusion. The victim is the son of Gibby and the injuries reportedly happened during a domestic violence incident which occurred at a residence on Cope Road in Andrews North Carolina. Levi Winslow Sutton was arrested in connection with the injuries sustained by the child victim and posted a $25,000.00 secure for charges of Injury to Personal Property, Assault on a Female, and Assault by Strangulation earlier this year.

Gibby was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where the North Carolina Magistrate placed her under a $3,000.00 bond which she later posted. Gibby has a June 9th 2014 Cherokee County Superior Court date.

Sheriff Keith Lovin commented “Our youth in Cherokee County are one of our most valuable and precious resources. My office is determined to continue to bring those to justice who hurt and endanger our innocents”
