The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Keith Lovin announced that Jason Dwayne Holderfield, a 26 year old Murphy, North Carolina man has been arrested for felony child abuse.
On or about July 29th, 2014, a 2 year old male was flown to TC Thompson hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee from Cherokee County due to several life threatening injuries as well as loss of consciousness and possible serious head trauma.
Once the child was examined at TC Thompson Hospital, Hamilton County Tennessee Department of Social Services working through the Cherokee County Department of Social Services provided information to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office that identified Holderfield as the person in care of custody of the child at the time the injuries were sustained.
Additional information discovered during the investigation by both Department of Social Services and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office determined that Holderfield was the person in care and custody of the two year old when he had sustained previous injuries as well as two previous fractures to the femur.
Holderfield was arrested on August 18th, 2014 and placed on a $5,000.00 secure bond which he made on August 19th, 2014. Holderfield is scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on September 03, 2014.
