The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Keith Lovin announced that 26 year old Zachary Keith Matheson, of Murphy North Carolina was arrested for allegedly stealing and selling metal in Cherokee County, North Carolina.
Following up on a reported theft of metal from a Cherokee County, North Carolina residence, information was gained by an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office that Matheson had sold the metal to a local scrap yard providing information that the metal was actually Matheson’s when in reality it wasn’t.
Matheson surrendered himself to the Cherokee County Detention Center on June 23rd, 2014 where he was booked and processed and released after posting a $1,000.00 secure bond. Matheson is expected to appear in Cherokee County District Court on July 22nd, 2014.
Sheriff Lovin stated “this was some good old fashioned police work where once the report was taken, leads are followed and an arrest is made. This is just another example how we take each case personally.”
