Murphy man charged with murder

The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Keith Lovin announced that John Anthony Hill, a 43 year old Murphy, North Carolina man was arrested for Murder in the death of Paul George Pfliederer, also of the Peachtree Community.

Shortly after 7 pm, on Sunday, June 29th, 2014 the Cherokee County Emergency Communications Center received a call for service at a residence in the Peachtree Community of Cherokee County. The nature of the call for assistance was for a home invasion in progress.

When the first responding deputies of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the Peachtree Community residence they were met by Hill at the front of his residence. Hill directed officers to his residence where they found Pfleiderer, in the Hill’s residence in an apparent lifeless condition. Hill’s residence was secured so that Investigators from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office along with a mobile crime scene team from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation could continue to process the scene.

After processing physical evidence at the scene, the cause and manner of death was later determined to be consistent with homicide.

John Anthony Hill was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he is currently incarcerated on $500,000.00 secure bond. Hill is expected to appear in Cherokee County District Court on July 08th, 2014.

Sheriff Lovin commends the cooperative effort displayed between personnel from his office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s Office “it takes a team to deal with these types of crimes.”
