Murphy man convicted for indecent liberties with a child

Murphy, NC — Cherokee County Sheriff Keith Lovin announced that on June 11th 2014 during the Superior Court Session, Joseph Eugene Heard, a 74 Cear old Murphy, North Carolina man plead guilty to two counts of indecent liberties with a child.

During the investigation of Heard, information revealed that Heard had engaged in sexual acts with minor females with the date of the offenses happening during 2001. Judge Jeffrey Hunt sentenced Heard to two 16 – 29 month sentences which were suspended and Heard was placed on supervised probation for a period of 36 months. Additionally, Heard is required to register as a sex offender for 30 years.

Sheriff Lovin stated “This was an excellent example of the team concept we employee in my office. Through constant communication between the investigators, District Attorney and personnel at the HAVEN Child Advocacy Center, we were able to get a good resolve to a very difficult matter for the family.”
