Press Release – June 2013
MUSICAL EXTRAVAGANZA TO BENEFIT HHS SCHOLARSHIP
A variety benefit concert with special appeal for local music lovers will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Hayesville, NC on Tuesday evening, June 11, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. The church facility is located one block west of the Hayesville square. Produced by friends of Madelyn Lea, the gifted organist and music director at IHM and at Ledford’s Chapel Methodist Church, who died of cancer in 2006, the memorial endeavor began in 2007 with the creation of a scholarship fund to support an annual $1000 grant to a Clay County high school music student. A dozen different groups, duets and soloists will offer an eclectic program of popular standards, oldies, instrumentals, barbershop, classical, contemporary and sacred music in a highly entertaining musical extravaganza. Among the many talented performers in this year’s lineup are Cody Killian , Mike Whitney, High Country Harmonizers, Wilson and Gary Slagle and the recipient of the 2013 award, Samuel Trull.
Concert tickets are $10.00 per person and all proceeds support the Madelyn Lea Scholarship Fund. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the following locations: St. Williams Church in Murphy, Square One Design in Hayesville, and BodySense in Hiawassee.
