CLAY COUNTY, N.C. – The U.S. Forest Service has extended the temporary road closure order for Forest Service (FS) Road 350, Perry Gap Road in Clay County because of public safety concerns with the continued logging operations on the road.
Logging operations were delayed due to the excessive amounts of rain in the area, resulting in the need to extend the road closure order. The first 2.7 miles of the road will be temporarily closed to motorized vehicle and horseback use until logging operations along this road are completed. Foot travel and bicycle travel are permitted; however, forest visitors should use additional caution when using this road. This first portion of the road is normally closed to motorized vehicle use from January through March, and all other portions of the road are always closed to motorized vehicle use.
This additional portion of Perry Gap Road will be closed because of public safety concerns with trucks hauling logs on the steep and narrow road. Closure signs and maps will be posted at the gate at the junction of Perry Gap Road and Buck Creek Road. Log trucks are also using Buck Creek Road, FSR 350A, so drivers should use caution when traveling in this area.
Logging operations affecting Perry Gap Road and Buck Creek Road will be completed by the end of March 2014.
