Serious accident on Fodder Creek amid icy conditions

Towns County mapThe following press release has been issued by Towns County Sheriff’s Office.

On January 28, Towns County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Fodder Creek Road in reference to a single vehicle accident involving an overturned vehicle in the creek. Upon arrival, deputies were directed to a 1998 Chevy Blazer which was in fact overturned in the creek. The driver and passenger were already out of the vehicles being attended to by Rescue and EMS.

Information indicates the vehicle was driven by Kyle Garret Waitkus, 18 of Hiawassee. Micci Dockery of Hiawassee was a passenger in the vehicle. Deputies reportedly determined that the Blazer was north bound on Fodder Creek Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle due to weather conditions at the time.

Both accident victims were transported to Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee. The passenger was treated and released. Mr. Waitkus was transferred to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. As of Monday morning, February 3rd, he was listed in critical condition. Please be in continued prayer for the driver and passenger and their families.
