What started out as a property crime, then escalated to an assault, ended up getting the victim of the assault arrested for possession of stolen property.
According to Sheriff Vic Davis, his office received a call from Donnie’s Hardwood Flooring on January the 2nd at around 8:30AM, for the building being vandalized. Deputy Taylor responded to location to investigate.
In the meantime, Capt. Melvin Cantrell received information on the same call as to who was responsible for damaging the building.
Capt. Cantrell drove to the scene. Upon arrival, Capt. Cantrell said that someone had ran into the building and done a lot of damage. He went inside the store where Deputy Taylor was and there was a large amount of blood on the floor.
During the investigation, it was determined that Jeffrey Lee Van De Gejuchte Jr. had been in a fight with his father, Jeffrey Lee Van De Gejuchte Sr. and had ran his vehicle into the building during the fight. Van De Gejuchte Jr. was not at the scene and was not immediately arrested. During the investigation, officers determined that the vehicle that Van De Gejuchte Jr. was driving, may have been stolen. There was several places in Clay Co. that officers found out the Van De Gejuchte Jr. might be hiding. Officers were checking those locations.
While checking on one location, Capt. Cantrell and Sheriff Vic Davis discovered the vehicle. According to Sheriff Davis, he and Capt. Cantrell stopped at the house and found Van De Gejuchte Jr. at that residence. The sheriff and Capt. had an arrest warrant for Van De Gejuchte Jr. for assaulting his father and Van De Gejuchte Jr. was arrested and placed in a patrol car.
Capt. Cantrell and Sheriff Davis tried to locate a vin number on the vehicle in the usual locations that vin numbers are located, but the numbers were missing. The Pennsylvania tag on the car did come back as stolen out of Pennsylvania.
Authorities were contacted in Pennsylvania. There were outstanding warrants in Pennsylvania for Van De Gejuchte Jr. Authorities there said they will come to North Carolina and get Van De Gejuchte Jr. when he is finished with court here.
Van De Gejuchte Jr. was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of a Vehicle with the vin numbers removed, Injury to Real Property and there was an outstanding warrant on him for Failing to Appear. His bond was set at $15,000 secured and he has a January the 13th court date set.
Jeffrey Van De Gejuchte Sr. was arrested for a Probation Violation charge out of Towns County Georgia. His bond was set at $10,000 secured and he has a January the 13th court date in Clay Co.
