Town of Andrews planning for tornado

Tornado(The Andrews Journal) — Andrews High School designated as place of refuge in disaster.

After last year’s EF-2 tornado swept through Murphy on March 2, 2012, this year’s tornado season has Andrews residents wondering, what would happen if a powerful tornado came through the Andrews Valley?

Andrews Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jake Buchanan and Cherokee County Emergency Management Director Robin Caldwell have answers to those questions.

Buchanan said the town has shelters to go to after an emergency situation.

“As far as prior to or during a storm, an emergency shelter does not exist in Cherokee County,” Buchanan said.
