Town of Murphy Parade and Fireworks – Info from Police Department

fireworksHere are a few reminders that the Town of Murphy Police Department would like to share concerning the July 4th Parade and Fireworks to be held this Saturday, July 13th, 2013.

1. July 4th Parade: We will be leaving the First Baptist Church, located on Hiwassee St. at 10:00 am. We will have all inbound traffic coming into Murphy either held or detoured until the parade passes. This will begin at 9:50 am to ensure all motor vehicle traffic is off of the roadway for the safety of the participants. The parade route runs through the Town Square and ends at Conaheeta Park.

2. July 4th Fireworks: This will begin around 9:00 pm, or when it becomes dark. Once the fireworks begin, due to the volume of spectators in the park, no motor vehicles will be allowed to enter the park. We also want to remind everyone that Conaheeta St., on the ball field side, is one way. All motor vehicles leaving the park after the fireworks end, will have to effect a right hand turn onto Hill St. No motor vehicles will be allowed to turn left. This is done to ease the flow of traffic.

3. We encourage everyone to use the sidewalks and designated crosswalks for their safety. We also encourage everyone to bring a flashlight. Parents should have a preplanned designated meeting location with their children in the event they were to be separated. We want to make sure that everyone has a safe and memorable time this Saturday.

Thank You, Chief Justin J. Jacobs
