Traffic stops nets drugs and arrest

The following news release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Murphy, NC— Dustin Michael Akroyd, a 22 year old male who reported a Marble, North Carolina address was arrested on April 30th, 2014 for controlled substance violations.

Investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a continued investigation into individuals who are illegally possessing controlled substances in Cherokee County. During that investigation, investigators initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Akroyd was an occupant. During the traffic stop the owner of the vehicle gave consent for a search of the vehicle which led investigators to locating illegally possessed amounts of methamphetamine, Schedule II and Schedule III controlled substances as well as paraphernalia.

Akroyd was arrested and brought to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was placed under a $20,000.00 secure bond and given a May 6th 2014 Cherokee County District Court date.

Sheriff Keith Lovin commented “My office is committed to use all means possible to combat the current drug problems that are affecting Cherokee County and its citizens. To that means I encourage our citizens to continue to report the illegal use of controlled substances. The valuable information that you provide assists in our efforts to deter the drug menace that we face today.”
