The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Two men have been arrested and charged with the theft of barrels from the Team Industries Plant in Marble. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was notified that on December 16, 2013, employees reported seeing someone taking barrels from a loading dock. The employee was able to get a description of the vehicle being used to place the barrels into. The next day, officers located a vehicle matching the description of the one as reported by the employee.
A subsequent investigation resulted in the recovery of about twenty barrels and the identification of an employee of Team Industries who was involved in the thefts. That person was Travis Eugene Newton, age 30, of Andrews. Also arrested was Jeffrey Colton Newton, age 21, of Marble NC.
Jeffrey Newton was charged with Felony Conspiracy and was arrested on January 7, 2014, and released on an unsecured $1000.00 bond .
Travis Newton was arrested and charged with Larceny by an Employee and Felony Conspiracy on January 20, 2014, and was released after posting a $2500.00 bond.
