Attention to those who had signed up to receive school closings via our TEXT MESSAGING SERVICE:
Recent changes in the Federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act required all existing text messaging subscribers to opt back into the system. What happened? Last week, most of our subscribers got deleted from the text database because of the way the law was implemented. So until we find another text messaging service and “start from scratch” to rebuild, we will NOT be sending out any School Closings & Delays via Text Messaging. We still offer several ways to get that information (should it become necessary this week:)
1) Listen to WKRK at 1320AM, Cable TV 25, www.country.am or on your smartphone or tablet using the free TuneInRadio app.
2) Visit our “Live Alerts, Closings & Roads” page on WKRK’s website at www.country.am
3) Call WKRK’s ForecastPhone at (828) 835-3200.
Sorry for the inconvenience. We wanted to alert you of the situation so that you would not be depending on getting those texts from WKRK, and we wanted to make sure to let you know where that information will be available until we arrive at a permanent solution.
Feel free to share any post from the WKRK website that you feel is beneficial to your community. We encourage input from local law enforcement, government officials, emergency management officials, schools and other public service organizations. To send us information, use the form on our WKRK Info page.
