On Thursday August 10, 2017, Joshua Morgan was arrested and served with True Bill of Indictments on several charges stemming from a case earlier this year. Sheriff Davis said back in January the Sheriff’s Office received a call on a stolen purse. The victim later discovered her cards had been used at Dollar General and Walgreens at amounts in excess of $500. Investigators were able to get video footage of the incident and later identified the man as Morgan. Morgan was indicted on Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Larceny After Breaking and Entering, and Obtaining Property by False Pretense. Morgan was on federal probation at the time and was violated and sent back to federal prison in Kentucky. Once he was released he was brought back to Clay County. When he got here he was served with the indictment and was also served with warrants out of Cherokee County. He is currently in custody in the Clay County Detention Center under at $20,000 bond. He has a September 20, 2017 court date. ![]() The following press release has been issued by Towns County Sheriff's Office. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 8/16/2017 Towns County search and rescue personnel located the body of John Brandon Eller, age 22 of Hayesville, North Carolina, shortly after 2:30pm on Wednesday, August 16th. After an extensive search, Eller's body was discovered a short distance off shore in Lake Chatuge behind his place of employment, Hawg Wild BBQ, in Hiawassee, Georgia, where he was last seen on Monday, August 14th around 5:50pm. The Towns County Sheriff’s Office Investigators were assisted by agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations in the investigation. The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Sheriff Clinton would like to give thanks to Towns County Fire and Rescue volunteers, Towns County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, K-9 units from Cherokee and Fannin Counties, CLEA, and other volunteers who assisted in the search for the missing person. At this point, foul play is not suspected. The case is active and ongoing, pending the medical exam and further investigation. Sheriff Davis said on Wednesday July 26, 2017, The Georgia Governor’s Drug Task Force was doing marijuana eradication and their helicopter crew discovered a small patch of marijuana. They relayed the coordinates to the ground crew who discovered the location was actually in Clay County. Towns County Investigators then called Clay County Investigators to come to the scene. Clay County Investigators applied for and received a search warrant for a property in Warne. Upon execution of the search warrants several marijuana plants along with several items of drug paraphernalia were seized. Sheriff Davis said warrants were issued for Courtney Moss and Wendy Bernhardt, as well as two other individuals who have not yet been arrested. Courtney Lynn Moss, 40 of Warne, was arrested and charged with Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Marijuana. She has already made a $5,000 bond and has an August 8, 2017, court date. Wendy Sue Bernhardt, 51 of Warne, was arrested and charged with Felony Maintaining a Residence for the Purpose of Selling or Manufacturing a Controlled Substance. She received a $5,000 unsecured bond and has an August 8, 2017, court date. Sheriff Davis said other charges are pending in this matter and that he wanted to thank the Georgia Governor’s Drug Task Force for their assistance in this matter. |
