Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the October 13th, 2018 arrest of a Joshua Warren Boyle, a 34 year old Orlando Florida man for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle and for felony eluding. At about 1 am on the 13th, of October 2018 Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office noticed a motorcycle with two riders at the intersection of 141 and US 74. The motorcycle operator, later identified at Joshua Warren Boyle, set through light changes apparently not able to turn left because the traffic light would not indicate a left turn. When one of the deputies approached in an effort to allow for Boyle to proceed with is turn, Boyle and the passenger sped off at a high rate of speed. The Deputy commenced a chase on US 74. At one point the passenger of the motorcycle was able to get off when the driver slowed to make a u turn. The chase lasted over 40 minutes with Boyle going into opposing lanes on several occasions on both two lane and four lane roads as well as exceeding over 115 mph. The chase ended when Boyle turned down a dead end road and lost control and hit a tree. There was minor damage to the motorcycle which later was discovered to be stolen out of Florida. Boyle, who fled a short distance on foot, was not injured. Joshua Warren Boyle was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was incarcerated for POSSESS STOLEN AUTOMOBILE, FLEE/ELUDE ARREST WITH A MOTOR VEHICLE, RECKLESS DRIVING - WANTON DISREGARD, FICT/ALT TITLE/REG CARD/TAG, INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY, DRIVE LEFT OF CENTER, RESISTING PUBLIC OFFICER, NO OPERATERS LICENSE, FAIL YLD STOP SIGN. Boyle is currently under a $30,000.00 secure bond and has a October 25th, 2018 District Court date. Sheriff Derrick Palmer stated “This started out as a good Samaritan act by the Deputy and ended in the recovery of a stolen vehicle and several traffic charges. Good work by the deputies and we appreciate the assistance from Murphy Police Department as well. Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the October 09th, 2018 arrest of a Timothy Wayne Barnes, a 34 year man who provided a Burgaw North Carolina address for Trafficking in Methamphetamine and stealing and possession of a motor vehicle. On October 09th, 2018 Cherokee County Emergency Communications received a call that a female had just had her car stolen. Deputies with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Murphy Police Department worked cooperatively to identify Timothy Barnes as the individual who had stolen the car. As the officers worked together they were able to ascertain a possible location of the car and Barnes. Upon arriving at the Martins Creek location the officers were able to retrieve the car and Barnes. Upon checking for wants and warrants information was found that Barnes had an Indictment from the April Cherokee County Grand Jury for Trafficking in Methamphetamine. Additionally during a search incident to arrest Barnes was found to have a quantity of suspected Methamphetamine on his person. Timothy Wayne Barnes was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center where he was incarcerated for LARCENY OF MOTOR VEHICLE, POSSESS STOLEN AUTOMOBILE, POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE, POSSESS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA, TRAFFIC IN METHAMPHETAMINE. Barnes is currently under a $60,000.00 secure bond and has a October 25, 2018 court date. CULLOWHEE – Twenty-two of the top high school marching bands from the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee will be competing for the title of grand champion and other honors at the 18th annual Tournament of Champions, which will be hosted by Western Carolina University’s Pride of the Mountains Marching Band on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The high school bands will present performances at WCU’s E.J. Whitmire Stadium with hopes of capturing the prestigious Chancellor’s Award, a glass traveling trophy that is presented to the grand champion. The highest scoring band from North Carolina will receive the Roll of Honor. The bands will compete in four classifications during the preliminaries – A, AA, AAA and AAAA – with the winners from each, as well as the next eight highest scoring bands, battling it out in the event finals. Last year’s grand champion, Dobyns-Bennett from Kingsport, Tennessee, will return this year to defend its title. The preliminaries competition includes a 20-minute clinic session after each band’s performance during which a nationally recognized band adjudicator provides a constructive critique for the band’s director and staff regarding performance and design. North Carolina bands and their preliminary performance times are Murphy, 9 a.m.; Clayton, 9:15 a.m.; Tuscola, 11 a.m.; North Lincoln, 11:15 a.m.; Pisgah, 11:45 a.m.; Central Cabarrus, 1 p.m.; Owen, 1:15 p.m.; Enloe, 1:45 p.m.; Ardrey Kell, 2 p.m.; Marvin Ridge, 2:30 p.m.; North Henderson, 2:45 p.m.; Smithfield-Selma, 3 p.m.; Enka, 3:15 p.m.; and East Lincoln, 3:30 p.m. Tennessee bands and their preliminary performance times are Seymour, 9:30 a.m.; Farragut, 10 a.m.; Bearden, 10:45 a.m.; Hardin Valley, 1:30 p.m.; and Dobyns-Bennett, 3:45 p.m. South Carolina bands and their preliminary performance times are Clover, 10:30 a.m.; and Mauldin, 11:30 a.m. A band from a Georgia high school, Allatoona, will have a preliminary performance time of 9:45 a.m. WCU’s Pride of the Mountains Marching Band will perform twice during the event – at 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Results from preliminary competition will be announced at 4:20 p.m., and the event finals begin at 6:45 p.m. Results from the finals will be announced at 10:20 p.m. Judges for the event include Dale Warren, chief judge; Levi Chavez, Randy Greenwell, J.D. Shaw and Chip Wood, music; Michael Gaines and Jeff Sacktig, visual; Rick Subel, color guard; Shane Gwaltney, percussion; and Emily Salgado, drum majors. Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the September 24th, 2018 arrest of a Timothy Jeffrey Mccoy, a 38 year old Andrews, North Carolina man on several counts involving the theft and possession of stolen motor vehicles. Detectives with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division conducted an investigation into several motor vehicle thefts in Cherokee County. During the course of the investigation Timothy Mccoy, who was out on bond for several previous motor vehicle thefts, became suspect. Several locations were searched by detectives and presently five motor vehicles have been recovered. The investigation is ongoing and several additional suspects are being identified. Timothy Jeffrey Mccoy was arrested for: POSSESS STOLEN AUTOMOBILE, LARCENY OF MOTOR VEHICLE, LARCENY OF MOTOR VEHICLE, BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, LARCENY AFTER BREAK/ENTER, BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, LARCENY AFTER BREAK/ENTER, POSSESSION OF STOLEN GOODS, POSS RCV STOLEN PROP CERT FEL, POSSESS MARIJUANA PARAPHERNALIA, SIMPLE POSSESS SCH VI CS, INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY, FIRST DEGREE TRESPASS, INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY, FIRST DEGREE TRESPASS, LARCENY OF MOTOR VEHICLE, BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, LARCENY AFTER BREAK/ENTER, POSSESS STOLEN AUTOMOBILE. Mccoy is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $52,000.00 secure bond and is expected to be in Cherokee County District Court October 11th, 2018. Sheriff Derrick Palmer stated, “Good work by the Detectives and Patrol Deputies on these cases. This is a major theft ring that we are making a dent in.
