Couple arrested for breaking into local business

The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

Murphy, NC— Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the July 2nd, 2015 arrest of a 48 year old Robbinsville, North Carolina man, Charles Ray Edwards Jr. and the July 31st, 2015 arrest of 29 year old Kayla Leann Garrett of Bryson City, North Carolina on charges stemming from a June 29th, 2015 breaking and entering.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a breaking and entering to a local business just outside the city limits of Murphy, North Carolina where several items were stolen.  Investigators were able to identify Edwards and Garrett as suspects in the crime and obtained warrants for their arrest.

Edwards is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center on unrelated charges. Warrants were served on Edwards and he was given a August 19th, 2015 District Court date.

Garrett was arrested and booked through the Cherokee County Detention Center and was released with a August 19th, 2015 District Court date as well.
