Deputy Aaron Deyton Receives Medal of Valor

The following press release has been issued by Towns County Sheriff's Office. 

An awards ceremony was held last night, July 14, 2015, to recognize the public safety personnel who assisted, rendered aid, or responded the night Deputy Aaron Deyton was stabbed in the line of duty on October 1, 2014.

911 dispatchers receiving certificates of appreciation were Christine Van Nus, Presley Smith, Angela Duvall, and Karen Taylor.

Fire department personnel receiving certificates of appreciation were Wayne Canterbury, Jeff Scott, Tyler Keyes, Evan Keyes, Billy Keyes, Bruce Berrong, Marty Roberts, John Dancsecs, and Chief Harold Copeland.

Emergency Medical Services personnel receiving certificates of appreciation were Capt. Curtis Walls, Corey Ledford, James Cowart, Justin Mitchell, and Brad Hamer.

Meritorious Service commendations were awarded to Deputy Matt Prentice and City of Hiawassee Police Officer Tracy James for assisting in the apprehension of the fleeing suspect and rendering aid and support to their fellow officer.

And finally, Deputy Deyton received the Medal of Valor. Even after being critically injured, Deyton subdued and apprehended the fleeing suspect.
