All left with full bellies and feeling of great appreciation. Fire suppression crews continue to mop up and patrol the fires, while addressing the smokes inside the perimeters. Safety of the firefighters and the community is number one priority as the firefighters go about their daily responsibilities. Fire prevention is extremely important in the community. Fires are started by cigarettes, sparks from vehicles in the dry grass, outdoor fires of any kind, and campfires that are not put out cold. The public can help prevent forest fires by being proactive in observation and reporting of fires. All fires currently burning are under investigation by local law enforcement. Thirty five fires have burned within the Qualla Boundary since October. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is seeking information regarding arson fires on Indian Lands through the WeTip Program.
