The following press release has been issued by Clay County Sheriff's Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On Friday June 17, 2016, at approximately 11:00 PM, Clay County Sheriff Deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at 251 Daytura Ridge in Hayesville.

Clay County Sheriff Vic Davis said upon the arrival of the deputies, they discovered the victim to be Clinton Brendle, age 43 of Hayesville. Brendle had several lacerations and was bleeding profusely. After making sure the scene was safe for EMS personnel, investigators began processing the scene and collecting evidence.

A man by the name of Ricky Jackson was identified as the suspect who had fled the scene on foot. A short time later, Clay County 911 Dispatch received information on the location of Jackson. Deputies responded there and arrested Jackson without incident.

Sheriff Davis said once Jackson was fingerprinted at the Detention Center, he was found to be lying about his identity. His real name is Richard Thomas Mimbs, age 40 of Hayesville.

This incident is still under investigation, and Mimbs is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center under a $250,000 bond. He has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill.

Sheriff Davis said according to family members, Brendle has been up and walking around after surgery.  He suffered a ruptured diaphragm, collapsed lung, as well as several other injuries.
