The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the June 8th, 2017 arrest of 39 year old Issac Daniel Hughes, of Murphy, North Carolina for violations of the controlled substances laws of North Carolina. During the morning hours of June 8th, 2017, drug investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received information that Hughes was riding around in Cherokee County and was in possession of two stolen weapons. As the day progressed, the investigators located the vehicle that Hughes was occupying. A stop of the vehicle was made and in a search incident to arrest, a large quantity of methamphetamine was found in the vehicle. Hughes was arrested and brought to the Cherokee County Detention Center where the magistrate set a $100,000.00 secure bond for TRAFFICKING IN METHAMPHETAMINE, POSS W/I MANUF/SELL/DEL SCHEDULE II CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, MAINTAIN PLACE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE INJURY TO REAL PROPERTY. Hughes has a June 27th, 2017 District Court date. Sheriff Palmer remarked, “We continue our aggressive efforts to control the drug trafficking in Cherokee County.
