UPDATE - 9:15 pm, Friday, June 9, 2017:   Chief Justin Jacobs of the Murphy Police Department tells WKRK that this investigation is ongoing.  An updated press release will be issued Monday by Murphy Police Department after questioning other parties involved in this case.

Below is the original press release from Cherokee County Sheriff's Office:

The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the June 8th, 2017 arrest of 23 year old Evelyn Elizabeth Gausepohl, of Marble, North Carolina, for selling stolen goods and for violations of the controlled substances laws of North Carolina.

On June 8th, 2017, officers with the Murphy Police Department provided information to detectives with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office that Gausepohl had been posting to a social media site and apparently selling air conditioners which had been stolen from Walmart.

In a search of the residence, an air conditioner, a firearm and several items of narcotic paraphernalia were seized.

Gausepohl is charged with misdemeanor larceny and was released on a $2,000.00 unsecure bond. Gausepohl is expected to be in Cherokee County District Court on June 27th, 2017.

Sheriff Palmer remarked, “This was a good cooperative effort with the Town of Murphy Police Department and our investigators. We are continuing to attempt to recover the air conditioners that had been sold and ask that anyone that has information either contact Murphy Police Department or Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Detectives.”
