The following press release has been issued by Clay County Sheriff's Office.  All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sometime shortly after midnight on Sunday March 5, 2017, an off-duty Clay County Investigator witnessed a red Chevrolet Colorado truck plow through the gate of the back parking lot at Tri-County Community College. The truck then pulled out onto Highway 64 heading toward Clay County. The Investigator checked the gate and saw that it had been forced open. He then went to see if he could locate the truck while contacting Cherokee County 911 Communications.

Sheriff Davis said the vehicle was located by the Investigator on Highway 64 going into Clay County; he then notified Clay County 911 Communications of the vehicle's location. A Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy located them and was able to stop the truck on Highway 64 West near Jacky Jones Ford.

Sheriff Davis said the driver was identified as Richard Keith Summer, 47, of Andrews, NC. Summer told deputies he did not know who the vehicle belonged to and that he just wanted to get home to Georgia.

Summer was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Property, Driving While License Revoked, and Reckless Driving. He is currently being held in the Clay County Detention Center under a $5000 bond. Other charges are pending.

Sheriff Davis said this was not Summer’s first run in with law enforcement that day.  Apparently, he had already had at least two other encounters with law enforcement in Andrews and Murphy.
