The following press release has been issued by Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Murphy, NC— Sheriff Derrick Palmer announced the June 8th, 2017 arrest of 25 year old Ethan Thomas Smith, 19 year old Jacob David Smith and 28 year old Clinton James Silvers all of Murphy, North Carolina. On June 08th, 2017 the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a breaking and entering at a residence in Marble, North Carolina where, among other things, a firearm and checks were stolen from the residence. Later in the day, a deputy was assisting the North Carolina State Highway Patrol on a driver’s license checking station when a vehicle in which the Smiths and Silvers were occupying came through the checking station. The deputy knew that Ethan Smith had an active warrant. During a search of the vehicle, incident to arrest items reported stolen were recovered in the possession of the two Smith brothers, along with a quantity of marijuana seeds. During the search, a quantity of methamphetamine was also found in the possession of Silvers. Ethan Smith was charged with BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, LARCENY OF A FIREARM, BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, FELONY POSSESSION MARIJUANA, POSSESS MARIJUANA PARAPHERNALIA, SECOND DEGREE TRESPASS, INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY. Ethan Smith is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $12,000.00 secure bond and has a June 27th, 2017 District Court date. Jacob Smith was charged with BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, LARCENY OF A FIREARM, BREAKING AND OR ENTERING, SECOND DEGREE TRESPASS, INJURY TO PERSONAL PROPERTY. Jacob Smith is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $9,500.00 secure bond and has a June 27th, 2017 District Court date. Clinton Silvers was charged with POSSESS METHAMPHETAMINE, POSSESS MARIJUANA GREATER THAN 1/2 OZ TO 1 1/2 OZ. Clinton Silvers is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $4,000.00 secure bond and has a June 27th, 2017 District Court date.
